Berlin/Popkomm

I have fallen in love all over again and the girl is called Berlin. I’ve never been to Berlin before and besides the fact that food is cheap and taxi’s are even cheaper there is so much history and culture to love when you’re there. I am going back to for a longer stay in a couple of weeks.

The VETO tour-bus arrived in Berlin around 8 AM wednesday after 12 hours of traveling. We were set to play on the danish showcase of the annual Popkomm Congress in Berlin. After walking around Berlin for a good five hours, and three-four hours of additional sleep we finally approached our scheduled slot in the danish showcase at the venue Postbahnhof in old East Berlin. We played alongside Figurines, The Broken Beats and many others that night and a sold out one-thousand-people-capacity-venue was our shared stage for the night.

Everything went smoothly, though I experienced a slight attack of traveling fatigue right before the show, but a couple of songs through the set I was back on track. Later I was on stage again, but this time DJ’ing and I had the talented Rebekka Maria (As In Rebekka Maria) with me on stage performing some of her songs – my remix of Cowboy Boy and a new song called She Lion – all for a very grateful and cheerful crowd.

I was a the conference center the next day to experience the “Popkomm Messe” first hand. In a way it could just as easily have been a congress for dentists or soap manufacturers as well as a for the music-business. Every label, country or digital/analouge distributor had their own little stall (except Sony/BMG who had something that more resembled the Parthenon in Greece, complete with torches and everything) where they could present their take on where the musicbusiness might be going. Everywhere you saw people handing out businesscards and promo CD’s and if you wanted to inflict yourself with a bad case of braincancer from cellphone radiation while in Berlin, this was the place to go. All in all; the first 3 hours was fine but I grew tired of the constant buzzing and ended op drinking fancy drinks in the swedish stall (See picture below. And yeah, it’s just a screwdriver with lights in the bottom. Swedes really know how to make nothing into something;-))

All in all a great trip and first impression of the city and I am looking forward to coming back for a longer stay, without the business aspect. Just pure good old relaxing vacation…
