Hyper Hyper

I am in love with this track from Modeselektors new album “Happy Birthday!”. A mocking of dance techno and at the same time kind of a tribute to the very same genre, though in a very weird way.

And the picture is Scooter, if you ever wondered what they might look like. I guess they are alright in their own very german, chlorine dyed, 90’s way ;-)

This friday

Besides going to the free TurboWeekend, Marvel Hill and VETO concert at Femøren, Copenhagen, you should come to Culture Box in Kronprinsessegade afterwards. CopyFokking are throwing a rave and you’re invited (in exchange for a minor fee of course).

Berlin/Popkomm

N653473692 175000 6059
I have fallen in love all over again and the girl is called Berlin. I’ve never been to Berlin before and besides the fact that food is cheap and taxi’s are even cheaper there is so much history and culture to love when you’re there. I am going back to for a longer stay in a couple of weeks.

The VETO tour-bus arrived in Berlin around 8 AM wednesday after 12 hours of traveling. We were set to play on the danish showcase of the annual Popkomm Congress in Berlin. After walking around Berlin for a good five hours, and three-four hours of additional sleep we finally approached our scheduled slot in the danish showcase at the venue Postbahnhof in old East Berlin. We played alongside Figurines, The Broken Beats and many others that night and a sold out one-thousand-people-capacity-venue was our shared stage for the night.

Everything went smoothly, though I experienced a slight attack of traveling fatigue right before the show, but a couple of songs through the set I was back on track. Later I was on stage again, but this time DJ’ing and I had the talented Rebekka Maria (As In Rebekka Maria) with me on stage performing some of her songs – my remix of Cowboy Boy and a new song called She Lion – all for a very grateful and cheerful crowd.

I was a the conference center the next day to experience the “Popkomm Messe” first hand. In a way it could just as easily have been a congress for dentists or soap manufacturers as well as a for the music-business. Every label, country or digital/analouge distributor had their own little stall (except Sony/BMG who had something that more resembled the Parthenon in Greece, complete with torches and everything) where they could present their take on where the musicbusiness might be going. Everywhere you saw people handing out businesscards and promo CD’s and if you wanted to inflict yourself with a bad case of braincancer from cellphone radiation while in Berlin, this was the place to go. All in all; the first 3 hours was fine but I grew tired of the constant buzzing and ended op drinking fancy drinks in the swedish stall (See picture below. And yeah, it’s just a screwdriver with lights in the bottom. Swedes really know how to make nothing into something;-))

All in all a great trip and first impression of the city and I am looking forward to coming back for a longer stay, without the business aspect. Just pure good old relaxing vacation…

The Glass Remix

Just uploaded my remix of The Glass – Mad At You. The track is on their ‘Couples Therapy’ EP which is released next week. It’s only out in the states though, but I’ll be damned if it’s not going to be easy to import from somewhere. Let’s see next tuesday.

Lately I’ve been feeling very tired…

I was not sure if I should post this, since it’s easy to pick on successful, beautiful and rich people. I came to the conclusion though, that I’d rather indulge my growing contempt and get it out now, than bottling it up and suddenly explode somewhere inappropriate.

I am tired of the second coming of the “french touch”. Tired of Uffie. I don’t want to come off as grumpy self-righteous bastard, but I really feel that electronic music is being discredited right now, by a very superficial hookline oriented electro pop, posing as electronic music. I confess; I really liked “Waters Of Nazareth” and I still do, but it seems that the formula has been the same again again, always trying to match that one wonder track.

Most sub-genres in electronic music are very loyal to a specific sound that makes the genre what it is and defines that specific sound from others. In my opinion, the sound and essence of the second french touch – as well as the first one – does not have substance enough to keep being interesting. It is basically pop music, that follows some very stringent guidelines to what works and what doesn’t in the charts. Of course there is good music coming out of France these days too, and I’d just wish that the general listener/clubkid/newraver/whatever would hear that instead of a pathetic drunk girl claiming to be “ready to fuck”. I mean, what the hell…?!

I want substance and depth, not easy hooks and cheap productions.

And with that out of my system, go read this. I love the way he ends the article…

Things that make my day…

Picture 2-1
DJ’ing till four AM and waking up, six hours later, not feeling tired at all. Receiving new records in the mail as the first thing in the morning. A boiled egg and a cup of coffe. Meeting deadlines (almost). The new Modeselektor album and Thom Yorke featuring on it. Bicycling your way around town as opposed to taking the bus or Metro. Getting the machines you spend so much money on, to do precisely what you wanted them to do, and even in the first try. Finding a favorite t-shirt after coming to terms with the fact that you probably lost it forever. Being on the phone with my brother. Will Ferrel. Working on a track an suddenly realizing what you need to do to make it work. Listening to Gui Borrato. Rain, but not too much rain.

Oh, bear with me. I had a very good day today.
