Good Copy Bad Copy

Picture 3
Just saw something very interesting on DR2. As some of you might know every tuesday has a theme and this evening it was Copyright. A couple of weeks ago I had a discussion with a guy who had started uploading full albums – including mine – for everyone to download for absolutely free. I was rather insulted that he thought that I was unconditionally against sharing culture and art. He even insinuated that I was trying to be the new Lars Ulrich (Remember? Plays the drums in Metallica, bad accent, didn’t like Napster). I find that offensive!

Quite the contrary, I am not a big fan of current copyright laws since they – as the two documentaries featured also concludes – in essence prevent people from being creative, and embrace the possibilities of using new technology to build upon the culture they are a part of. Like these guys…

LINK TO VIDEO
Works in VLC or Windows Media Player. Documentary starts around 4 minutes in. Just skip the two guys eating sushi ;-)

What I am a big fan of though, is Creative Commons who I think have hit bullseye with their suite of licenses for every possible need you could have as an artist, who wants to de-criminalize people who remix, mash-up and so forth. I don’t want to go into all the details right now, but you should watch the video in the link above. The first documentary is “Good Copy Bad Copy” which takes us around the world to explore the remix culture. It’s followed by the very bias documentary “Alternative Freedom” about alternatives to the current copyright laws.

UPDATE: You can download Good Copy Bad Copy here legally…

Alrighty oh! Presenting the brand new all singin’ all dancin’ remix of The Artificial Limbs‘ “Rip It Off”. First I couldn’t quite crack the nut on this one, but yesterday I had somewhat of an epiphany and today I finished the damn thing. How ’bout that…
Let me know what you think…

Electrojuice

This is definitely worth keepin’ your eye – or ear – on! Electrojuice consists of Mads Kolding and Jakob Torp Littauer from Aarhus, Denmark and these two youngster claim to be a mere 13 and 14 years old! That itself is mindblowing considering the amount of coolness that is in both music and visual style. They’ve told me that they will upload more songs soon, so keep their myspace site in your bookmarks and check in on them now and then.

Keepin’ it “So Real”

Jeff-Buckley-Lying-Down400
Being an old fan of Jeff Buckley I feel obligated to object every time his mother, or whoever holds the rights to his songs, decides to release yet another post mortem album from the legendary singer/songwriter. With every compilation of songs released, the value of his first album “Grace” goes down. I don’t mean dollars and cents, but “Grace” is such a strong album, which shouldn’t have to compete with other releases containing the same songs or material that were not meant for publication in the first place.

On the other hand…

Being an old fan of Jeff Buckley I am thrilled every time another post mortem compilation leaves the press and finds way to the stores. I once read that Mary Guibert, Buckleys mother, didn’t pay attention to people claiming that it was devaluating his sons legacy, to keep releasing compilations and unfinished material. She feels that it his her duty to tell the world of her son and his music, and with that in mind, every single one (it’s around seven or eight at the time of writing) of the compilations and rarities albums released since this great artists death, is justified.

What do you think?

Tilde has uploaded a new song on her myspace site. It’s called Cubic Laughter and I for one like where she is going with this. She was recently Band Of The Week on danish music community MyMusic. What might the future bring for this talented young woman…?

Glitch
It seems that there has been a minor glitch in the layout around here. I have located the problem and everything should work just fine and dandy now. If not, please let me know and don’t hesitate to send along a screenshot so I can see what all the fuzz is about. Sorry for the trouble.
