Marybell Katastrophy

200612120110
Just returned to my apartment after a weekend trip to visit some family. And is there a better welcome home, than new music in the mail. Two EP’s with the most wonderful and weird music I’ve heard for a long time. Somewhere in between Cat Power, Stina Nordenstam and Björk is where you’ll find Marybell Katastrophe. Apparently a one-woman project, Marie Højlund, have had help from such people as Mr. Q. of Beta Satan, and Jonas Thejsen of Ehlers/Thejsen. The end result is by far one of the most interesting things in Denmark right now. You can order her two so-called “demos” from the website by mailing her directly. They sure don’t sound like demos to me ;-)

The Killers have officially sold out…

I know that I might have a slight problem with everything christmas related. Maybe I am wrong when I say that christmas has become nothing more than a shallow excuse for showing the rest of the world, how filthy rich we are. Maybe I just can’t see that the tasteless marketing under the excuse of love and joy is good for anything or anyone…

I won’t lie: I loved “Hot Fuzz” when I first heard it. Absolutely loved it, and I still do. But when I heard “Sams Town” I was disappointed. Honestly I think the album is anthem rock of the worst kind, and everything ecxiting about the band is gone. And now the band has reached new lows when they, next month is releasing their…hold on…christmas single “A Great Big Sleigh” exclusively on iTunes…

I don’t get it. I just don’t get it…

UCLA “Incident”…

A couple of days ago I saw the most disturbing thing on YouTube. It was a video showing a student at the University Of California getting tazed repeatedly by the police. Allegedly he did not have his ID with him and couldn’t identify himself, and when asked to leave the library he refused. So you see, the nice policemen that were called to the scene “to serve and protect” decided to fry the poor man on the spot, with their brand new toys. Tazer guns!

Is this a fucking joke or what? Was there not any other way of finding out who this kid was? How did the situation escalate into this? Did the officers listen to the guy in the first place? And last but not least, watch as one of the officers threatens another student, just for asking questions about the violent overreaction. ” Get back…or you’ll get tased too. What is that?

The US is turning into a police state in an alarming rate.

But don’t think that ’cause you’re not living there you’re safe? The USA PATRIOT ACT and other anti-terror laws, just about gives the USA the right to do anything they want inside and outside their borders.

(The USA PATRIOT ACT) Allows non-citizens to be detained without charge and held indefinitely once charged.
This is permissible if the US government certifies that there are “reasonable grounds” to believe a person’s action threatens national security. This runs counter to US and international rights to due process and could also lead to violations of rights in the Vienna Convention on Consular Relations, which guarantee that governments be notified if their nationals are detained.
Quote from Amensty Internationals website

So basically the US could come and pick me up right now, if they thought that I was a threat to their national security. Pretty much what they did in Pakistan when they decided to give out rewards to the public if they caught some nasty potential(!) terrorists. So people started turning in their neighbors and friends for the sake of money. A lot of innocent people where shipped to Guantanamo, including US citizens. All without a shred of evidence! Locking people up for no reason, denying them the right to a fair trial. Lying and killing! All in the name of safety

Ain’t that just fantastic.
To serve and protect…

Hot Chip – Boy From School Video

When I was working in a daycare center, before all this music business started to take up all of my time, I was told that, when kids get creative, the process is more important than the product. It seems like the nice fellows from Hot Chip have the same approach to making musicvideos. See for yourself…

Marvel Hill

Don’t they look sharp in that dim light with their black clothes?

Here’s a little sample of what I did with Marvel Hill last weekend. We played around from wednesday through saturday and the result was pretty great. It’s a kind of trancey rock thing they have going, with big synthwalls and repetitive grooves. Have a listen at their myspace site

Fit Black Man

Skeletons-And-Girl-Faced-Boys-050919-2

Oh yes yes yes! I finally found a free version of Skeletons’ “Fit Black Man” that was featured on the Ghostly International: Idol Tryouts compilation earlier this year. This is maybe the best song ever written…
