Roskilde Festival

So, today I leave for this years Roskilde Festival, and I don’t think that I’ve been this excited since…well…I have never been so excited about a concert! ;-) The mere thought of it is freaking me out! Me. Onstage at the Roskilde Festival, where I first found out what it meant, to be alive. (okay, that might be a little tacky, but still…)

Well, I must pull myself together now, and get out the door. I have packed everything you could possibly need for a festival. Toothbrush, clean clothes, and an extra pair of shoes, and in a few minutes I’ll be picked up by the guys and we’ll be off…

Things might be a little slow around here for the next couple of days, but bear with me.
Have fun and enjoy the summer…

p.s. By the way, run out and get this album! It’s so very, very cool…

Fembots #1

Thought I’d make this theme a recurring one, since I think that there are so many talented female electronic musicians out there. So why not make a list? To kick it off I found these three for you.

Ellen Allien Ellen Allien

German artist making some very cool and simple electro. Especially her collaboration with Apparat has spawned some very cool stuff. This track for example!
Apparantly she’s also a clothing designer!

Apparat
Orchestra Of Bubbles

Band Ane Band Ane

One of the more innovative electronic musicians in Denmark. More of a nordic approach to the electronic genre. You know, pianos and melodikas. In the likes of Múm and such.

Kate Wax Kate Wax

Releasing a new full lenght this fall and as a matter of fact, nine of the thirteen tracks are available as a free download. Somewhere in the likes of Anna Oxygen and Ladytron.

Uzi Rumors

Ben Shepard of Uzi And Ari has been so nice to inform me that they have signed with this label. This Luxembourg based label has put their claws in this fine band (who can blame them), and they will be visiting Europe early next year. Mr. Shepard told me that it was not entirely impossible that they would visit this little green-brown spot called Denmark. I’m hoping so much…

Uzi And Ari – It Is Freezing Out

Just recieved the new Uzi And Ari album yesterday, and now that I’ve had a chance to listen to it thoroughly, I thought I’d post a little review. First of all it’s a great record. No doubt about it! If you like the whole “Kid A” and “Amnesiac” radiohead period this is a definite musthave. Kicks of with “It is freezing out” and then slides right into “Don’t Black Out” which I linked to in an earlier post.

One could argue that this album is a little to Radiohead’ish, but if you’re going to be that petty-minded I don’t think you’ll ever be able to enjoy new music, since everyone “steals” from everyone. It’s very obvious on the first three tracks, that this guy has had his share of long nights with the previously mentioned Radiohead albums, but as the album progresses you hear other influences, spanning from the alt. country scene to the more avantgarde electronic rock.

The songs are gloomy and centered around fear of life, love and the world in general. Songs about being feeling alone, I should think. I can’t help but think of a certain verse from Bright Eyes’ “Hit The Switch” when I hear this album. Though it’s a completely other type of music, the feeling I get is just about the same, and this verse sums the whole “I’m sorrounded, but yet alone”-feeling up, pretty good:

…Theres a switch that gets hit and it all stops making sense
And in the middle of drinks, maybe the fifth or the sixth
I’m completely alone at a table of friends
I feel nothing for them. I feel nothing, nothing!

Uzi and Ari - It

All in all a very versatile album, that surely will be spinning on my stereo in next couple of weeks. And that’s a long time nowadays… ;-)

You can purchase the album here and I promise you it’s worth every goddamn penny!

Homesick Hank / Lambchop

I just got my hands on the new album “Leave It Behind” by Homesick Hank, and though I must admit that I was skeptical at first, it’s starting to grow on me. The opening track called “Rock’n'Roll” is by far my favourite on there. If you like the music of Paul Oldham AKA Bonnie ‘Prince’ Billy you’ll probably like this too, since it’s produced by the very same man and you can sure hear that. Sometimes a little too much, if you ask me, but for the most part this record is a very pleasant acquaintance and I hope the best for Homesick Hank in the future.

They released this album on the sixth day of the sixth month of the sixth year of the new millenium (I must go and see that movie soon) so get on out there and grab it!

Homesick Hank

Went to a record store today, which I haven’t done for months, and picked up “The Decline of the Country and Western Civilization: 1993-1999″ by Lambchop which is a collection of b-sides and unreleased stuff. The tracks are chronologically ordered so you can really follow the process of the band becoming who they are today. Exciting stuff…
GO GET IT!!!
